Description

Welcome, warriors!

Yoga and Hiking Retreat with Dada Vishvarupananda

We invite you to a unique 5-day experience focused on the balance between body, mind and nature, through yoga and hiking in the beautiful Sierra de Huautla, Morelos. The retreat will be based at Ananda Madhumaya and in the natural surroundings of Los Manantiales, where we will connect deeply with nature through camping and exploring.
This will be the first retreat of its kind at our centre, which makes it a truly special and unique opportunity. It will be guided by Dada Vishvarupananda, whose experience and presence will offer deep guidance throughout the program.

During these days we will combine yoga practice every morning and evening, ideal for relaxing the body, calming the mind and reconnecting with your essence. Alongside this, we will hike trails through the sierra, exploring unique natural landscapes that include springs, rivers and even a Nepali-style wooden suspension bridge, which will make this experience even more special.
This retreat is also an individual and a collective journey at the same time: a space to look within, while you share, learn and grow together with others in an atmosphere of respect, connection and collaboration.

With great inspiration we remember that nature is not just a setting, but a living expression of universal consciousness. When we come into contact with it, the mind expands, becomes still and grows more receptive. In the silence of the sierra, in the flow of the water and in the vastness of the landscape, we find a reflection of our own essence.
Retreat program:

• Wednesday, August 12: arrival at Ananda Madhumaya in the afternoon/evening, dinner included.
• Thursday, August 13: breakfast and departure to the springs area; hiking and first night of camping.
• Friday, August 14: full day of hiking and second night camping in nature.
• Saturday, August 15: hiking and return to Ananda Madhumaya in the afternoon for dinner.
• Sunday, August 16: breakfast and closing. Optional: additional activities such as a visit to the pyramids or a trip to the river for those who wish to extend the experience.

* All meals from dinner on August 12 to breakfast on August 16 are included.

This retreat is designed to integrate the conscious movement of yoga with the vital energy of hiking, creating a complete experience of physical, mental and emotional renewal in an incomparable natural setting.

Allow yourself to pause, reconnect and experience something different.
We look forward to seeing you!

– Dada Vishvarupananda and team

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Dress and Behaviour

Though the programs we organise also serve a social function, their main purpose is spiritual. To keep the right vibration in our space, keep our minds elevated and avoid distracting others (intentionally or not), we ask you to dress modestly and try to behave in a dignified way. That includes refraining from loud talking and laughing.

To maintain the sanctity, women please cover your cleavage, shoulders and stomach, wear a dress/trousers that cover below the knees and avoid tight clothes. We also ask you not to use makeup or perfume, as they are not relevant for this program.

For the men, please cover your chest and shoulders and wear trousers that cover below the knees. Similarly, we ask you not to use after-shave.

These smells can give headaches to those who are more sensitive and disturb pranayama (a breathing technique). Even if worn with pure thoughts, they can distract others.

Remember that this is our jagrtii (ashram/temple), and though romance and courtship are a natural part of life, this is not the time or place to express them. Please treat everyone as if they were your own brothers and sisters.

Cancellation Policy

As we have prior non refundable expenses such as the hotel booking and travel arrangements we can not give full refund in case you cancel. Nevertheless, we offer the following options:

  • If you cancel two or more weeks in advance, you’ll get a refund of 70% over the total amount.
  • With a cancellation within less than two weeks and latest 3 days before the start there is no refund. However the balance minus 30% can be applied to any of our future program(s) within one year.
  • Otherwise if you cancel less than 3 days in advance or just don’t show up there is neither refund nor a balance for future programs.

Travel Information

How to get here:

By car:
From Mexico City take the autopista (toll road) to Acapulco. About 25 km after Cuernavaca there is an exit to Alpuyeca; cross this town following the signs to Xochicalco (direction Miacatlán). Once in Xochicalco, turn right at the Oxxo, taking the main road towards the pyramids. After about 250 m there is a health centre on the left. Just after that, turn left onto the unpaved road and go down about 150 metres. You’ll see our centre and the welcome banner for the retreat. There is also an Ananda Marga sign on the main road.

Google Maps will get you there if you enter “Ananda Marga Retreat Center, Xochicalco, Morelos” or “Ananda Madhumaya” in the search bar.

By flight:
Fly to Mexico City and take the regular airport bus to Cuernavaca Casino. From there, many buses go to Xochicalco. Just ask which one goes via the autopista; the other route is slow. Get off at the Oxxo (a convenience store) in Xochicalco and walk as per the instructions above.

By bus from Taxqueña, Mexico City:
1) Around 3 pm there is a direct bus (Pullman de Morelos) that passes Xochicalco. When booking your ticket you may have to ask for El Rodeo or Miacatlán (Morelos) if they don’t know Xochicalco, but the bus will stop at the Oxxo in Xochicalco if you ask the driver. It’s a 5-minute walk from there, and the instructions are above.

2) There are also many buses that stop at the Alpuyeca caseta (toll booth). From the caseta you can take a taxi (if available); otherwise there are combis (minibuses) to Alpuyeca itself (5 minutes), and there you can change to one going to Xochicalco (10 minutes). If it goes into Xochicalco itself, ask them to stop at the health centre; if not, get off at the Oxxo.

3) Take a bus to Cuernavaca (Casino or Central) and follow the instructions below.

By bus from Cuernavaca:
From either the Casino or the Central terminal, many buses stop in Xochicalco. You may have to ask for El Rodeo or Miacatlán. Xochicalco is just before El Rodeo, and the bus can drop you at the Oxxo. Just make sure the bus you take uses the autopista and not the libre (free road), as that takes one hour more.

By bus from other towns:
It’s best to get to Cuernavaca or Mexico City first and then follow the instructions for those places above.
